DIY Christmas Angel Peg Dolls

making peg dolls and more

Inspired by Margaret Bloom’s new book “Making Peg Dolls and More” published by Hawthorn Press, I decided to tackle a project I’ve had on my to-do list for a while now. To make Christmas Angel peg dolls. I’m a little bit in love with how they turned out.  Ooooooo! Cute!

If you want to make some too, here is the step by step tutorial on how to make DIY Christmas Angel Peg Dolls.

1. You’ll need a wooden peg doll form. Mine are ones that have a hole through the top part of the V shape for arms.  Firstly, paint the base of the peg doll with white acrylic paint. I used my Crayola paints, nice and thick and robust.

2. Push a piece of pipe cleaner through the holes to make the arms.

3. While the paint is still wet, sprinkle your favourite silver glitter over the body.

4.  Let them dry overnight.

5.  To make the hair, mix up some light brown paint.

6. Paint a pretty hairstyle onto the head of the doll. I like the ‘left/right’ sweep across the fringe area, with the part on one side- not centred.  Add a dob of glue on one side and place a flower bead or button for a fancy hair clip.

7.  When the doll is dry, pull the two ends of the pipe cleaner forward and wrap one end over the other to ‘knot’ the arms together. Cut off any excess length.

8.  Cut a teeny felt heart in red, and place this in the doll’s arms.

9. The final step is to add eyes and a love heart mouth.  Oh my.  Serious cute alert!

Now all that is left is to find them a home. I thought about wrapping them up and giving them away but I just can’t!  Not yet. Right now, they are guarding my computer in the office and just be sweet angel friends to me!  We’ll have to wait and see if they feel inclined to journey onward… but I have a feeling they are quite at home here.   **Smiles**

What kind of peg doll would you like to make?

PS: With big hearty thanks to Crayola for supplying the acrylic paint I used in this tutorial.
