Steiner Family Day Care Gold Coast – Dragonfly Days
Rachel Chee – Mt Nathan
Rachel is a familiar face to many people, having been a founding parent at Silkwood (Steiner) School with her own children Shayler and Sam (now grown up!).
10 years experience
In fact, Rachel worked alongside Amber back in the early days as a teaching assistant in Preschool when Amber was one of the early childhood teachers at Silkwood. Motivated by the creative educational opportunities she witnessed at Silkwood, and keen to run her own Steiner Family Day Care Gold Coast business, Rachel melded these two worlds by opening her own family day care centre almost 10 years ago, first in Chirn Park and Labrador, and for the past few years, in Mount Nathan.
Collaborative working environment
With the commencement of Rainbow Bridge, Rachel has joined forces once again with Amber and Victoria to provide Steiner Family Day Care Gold Coast. (It’s such fun to work alongside one another again!) She is loving the opportunity of participating in the creative training and meeting with, and working alongside, other like-minded educators. This collaborative working environment is just what she has been looking for!
Rachel’s parents built their home with the knowledge that Rachel would run her Steiner family day care Gold Coast from the space. Entry is via a loop driveway, and parking is available by the Welcome Gate at the back of the property. Children walk through this gate into a beautiful two-tiered garden filled with ornate shrubbery, fruits and vegetables, flowers and lots to do. There’s a slide, sandpit, rocking horses, flat areas to run, jump and skip, bean teepees, climbing frames, and hiding spots. The eating/meals area is undercover on the verandah.

Indoor Play – A dedicated space for young children to learn and grow
Rachel has a dedicated indoor play area for the children. It’s a place for them to grow their imaginations, dress up, laugh, dance, read books, listen to oral stories, play in the home corner, play cooking and so much more. Rachel’s daily rhythm includes plenty of time for free imaginative play (the child’s WORK) as well as a balance of creative activities and crafts. Her goal is to offer things that are beautiful, truthful, good AND meaningful for the most part. There is also plenty of opportunity to sing, learn new movements, dance in circle time, and extend those fine and gross motor skills.
Rachel creates a seasonal term plan that aims to take notice of the world surrounding the children and bring the little things such as changing colours of the leaves, or tiny insects in their home, or the colour order of the rainbow, to the children’s attention in a very subtle way. Her cooking experiences, stories, songs, movement games, transitions, blessings, crafts, activities and more link in with this seasonal plan.
The Enchanted Garden
Rachel is open Monday to Friday, and has a special one-of-a-kind space filled to the brim with creative opportunity. Children can play, draw, build, create, think, plan, clean, learn, shape, and self-direct their learning supported by Rachel.
The Magic Faraway Tree
There’s one thing we can’t forget- Rachel has an enchanted forest at the front of her house! Daily, Rachel takes the children on a short walk to visit the swinging tree and there they play, and daydream, and sing with gusto.
